Description The dataset provides statistics on government sector debt, one of the Maastricht Treaty convergence criteria used to monitor the economic situation in EU Member States. Government sector debt is defined as the total outstanding nominal value of the liabilities of the general government sector (S.13) at the end of the reporting period, excluding those liabilities for which the corresponding financial assets are held by the domestic general government sector (S.13). Government sector debt comprises the following liability categories: currency and deposits (AF.2), debt securities (AF.3) and loans (AF.4), as defined in ESA 2010. Quarterly government sector debt is presented by subsector: central government (S.1311), local government (S.1313) and social security funds (S.1314). Classifications used: European System of Accounts (ESA 2010). Statistical observation unit: institutional units classified to the general government sector according to ESA 2010. Statistical population: general government (S.13). Geographical coverage: the entire economic territory of the country. Time coverage: from the 1st quarter of 2000. Frequency of dissemination: quarterly.
