| Description | Material flow accounts (by type of raw material and material). The purpose of economy-wide material flow accounts (EW-MFA) is to produce indicators comparable with other EU Member States. EW-MFA support EU policy priorities related to green growth and resource efficiency and, in line with the UN System of National Accounts and its European version (ESA), provide information on material flows. EW-MFA are suitable for integrated analysis and modelling of environment–economy interactions. Domestic material consumption (DMC) shows the total amount of materials used by resident units. Domestic extraction used (DEU) is the annual quantity of solid, liquid and gaseous materials (excluding water) extracted from the natural environment by resident units for use in the economy. Exports of goods and services are transactions where residents transfer economic ownership of goods and services to non-residents; imports are the reverse. Direct material input (DMI) is the total input of materials for production and services, including materials used to produce imported goods. Classification: material types classification for EW-MFA as set out in Annex III to Regulation (EU) No 691/2011 on European environmental economic accounts.
